It was His Love

hbu cross 2013The cross may have been old and rugged
The cross may have been firm and secure
But it was not the cross that held my Lord up at Calvary
It was His love for you and me

The nails may have been long and sharp
The nails may have been sturdy and straight
But it was not the nails that held my Lord up on the cross
It was His love for you and me

The soldiers may have been fit and trained
The soldiers may have been ruthless and hardened
But it was not the soldiers who hoisted my Lord on the cross
It was His love for you and me

It was His love that would not let me go
It was His love that would not let me stray away
It was His love that would not let me perish
It was His love for you and me

It was His love that bore what I could not bear
It was His love that paid what I could not pay
It was His love that satisfied what I could not satisfy
It was His love for you and me

It was His love so limitless and so amazing
It was His love that took on the suffering meant for me
It was His love that did what you and I cannot ignore
It was His love for you and me

It was His love that paid it all for me
It was His love that marked it paid in full
It was His love that left me not a penny to pay
It was His love for you and me

It was His love that got the Perfect numbered among the transgressors
It was His love that would not let Him summon His angels
It was His love that considered my salvation paramount
It was His love for you and me

It was His love that made the Sinless take on my sins
It was His love that made the Author of life taste death
It was His love that made the Master of masters a humble servant
It was His love for you and me

It was His love that made the King of kings leave His throne for a lowly manger
It was His love that made the King of kings wear a demeaning crown of thorns
It was His love that made the Co-creator suffer at the hands of His creatures
It was His love for you and me
