I’m starting some work on the topic of incarnation, and the idea of presence is one that is central to this concept. To really know someone is to be present with them. One of the benefits of the summer is the additional time to hang out with friends and students at coffee shops to get to know one another in a deeper way. We at HBU value the opportunity to connect personally with people, and so we have a couple of upcoming events for our School of Christian Thought faculty to interact with you.
Today and tomorrow is, as one of my colleagues put it, the super bowl of the Southern Baptist year because it is the time for the Annual Meeting of the SBC. This year is special though because the big event is here in Houston. As a result, those of us from the School of Christian Thought who are in town will be hanging out in the exhibitors hall to meet and greet fellow pilgrims pursuing the Kingdom of God. Come check out HBU’s booth–#1641. We would love to meet those of you following this blog face to face and particularly to share with you about our graduate programs in Theology, Biblical Languages, Apologetics, and Philosophy.
In addition, we have an Information Reception for all of our graduate programs on Tuesday, June 18, 6:00pm-7:30pm in the Hinton Center here at HBU. We would love if you would RSVP, but feel free to come by if any of our programs might be of interest to you. Since graduate school is an important investment in your time and money, it’s important to meet the very professors with whom you might study. Since our programs are built on faculty-student relationships, we want to get to know you as well.
One enticement for those of you considering graduate study with us this Fall . . . . Here at HBU we have the fabulous Dunham Bible Museum, and our good friends there have offered a framed page from an original 1611 KJV Bible as a gift for a drawing. So, anyone who completes their application package (application, references, etc.) for any of our graduate programs (MATS, MABL, MAA, MAPhil) in the month of June 2013 will be eligible for the drawing. Even better, finishing the application process in June will make you eligible for the scholarship deadline of July 1!
We look forward to getting to know you by meeting you face to face, and hope we have to opportunity to further those conversations in the fall.
